When mixing vocals, Marc does not go after super, super compressed vocals, but he does appreciate a vocal that sits really forward in the mix. Getting that forward mix without hyper-compression, though, is kind of tricky. Marc had found that by doing serial compression - multiple in one chain - it does the trick without leaving the vocal sounding hyper compresssed! In betwen these compressor, Marc will do some EQ, some de-essing, and other edits to really bring the vocal forward in the mix and get it sounding exactly the way he wants. Watch the video to see Marc go into detail on how he gets his vocal sound.
