During the festivities, dancers and athletes fill the streets, celebrating the change of season. Rulers used to stop fighting, sign peace treaties and release prisoners during Nowruz," says historian ... READ MORE : 🤍 What is in the news today? In short Nowruz is a fantastic 2-week celebration of rebirth and renewal with Iranian, zoroastrian origins, AKA the Persian New Year. It has been celebrated since nearly 3000 years ago until today by more than 300M people. As is fitting for Persian and Zoroastrian culture, the ceremonies surrounding Nowruz center on community, family, and a deep respect for tradition. Beyond those, Nowruz is about closing one chapter and turning the page to the next one with hope and joy. It’s about the excitement of endless possibilities that come with a blank slate. This could be why Nowruz has survived and thrived through generations and cultures. Who doesn’t want to celebrate the renewal of nature, a new beginning, and a brand new chance to live life? It's no coincidence it falls on the first day of spring. The Iranian calendar is a solar calendar, meaning time is determined, through astronomical observations, by Earth's movement around the sun. So, the first day of the year always kicks off with the natural phenomenon of the vernal equinox We think that everyone should celebrate nowruz as it comes with a lot of fun, food, gifts, and hope. This video is here to help you understand Nowruz celebrations and join in the fun. March 21 was officially recognized in 2010 as International Nowruz Day by the United Nations at the request of countries including Afghanistan, Albania, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Turkey and Turkmenistan. The "Haft Sin" table, which includes seven symbolic items starting with the Farsi letter "S,” includes wheat grass, herbs, dried food and vinegar, all representing various hopes for the new year, including health, wealth and prosperity. For example, "Sir," the word for garlic, represents protection from illness and evil, while vinegar, or "Serkeh," represents longevity and patience. The tables also include mirrors, candles, decorated eggs, water and various fruits. In this video you will learn about terms like Khooneh Tekooni, Haft Seen, Eid Didani, and Eidi. We have a video coming up about charshanbeh soori which is the very first event of Nowruz Festival. Subscribe to Iran Untold on Youtube so you do not miss on that and all the other videos we make about the cool, positive, fun side of Iran and Iranian culture. It’s Norooz, Iranians’ favorite time of year. Every year, families across Iran get ready to feast, join together and celebrate, often traveling hundreds of miles to see loved ones. They exchange gifts and prepare the haft sin, the traditional table setting. But it’s not just Iranians who mark the “new day” and the first day of the new season. People from all over the globe — Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kosovo and Tajikistan among them — hold their own unique festivities to say goodbye to the old and usher in the new. You don’t need to be Iranian to celebrate the coming of spring and enjoy the festivities — it may be steeped in Persian myth and tradition, but it’s truly an inclusive holiday for all.

Powered by 🤍 Under the travel section of the Eurovision.tv website we placed a short video devoted to the celebration of Novruz, a national holiday in Azerbaijan. Novruz is a holiday of friendship and peace. It is meant to connect people. Novruz means a new day, which explains why we celebrate the holiday in spring. Novruz signifies the awakening of nature from winter, the beginning of a new day. Preparations for Novruz start four weeks prior to the festival. Each of the forthcoming four weeks is devoted to one of the four elements of life on our planet: water, fire, earth and wind. Each of the so-called Novruz Tuesdays people celebrate one of these symbols of life. One of the main elements of this holiday is fire. Today we are celebrating "the Fire Tuesday". It is the second of the four Novruz Tuesdays, which signals the coming of spring. The key feature of the week is people dancing around bonfires. "The Fire Tuesday" signifies the warmth in the hearts of people who live in the Land of Fire Azerbaijan. People spend this day with their relatives and friends. Everybody gets to share the warmth of this fire. The main days of the holiday fall on the 20th and the 21st of March. On those days we will witness a completely different picture throughout the country. The joy of the holiday will be shared everywhere. UNESCO included this holiday in its lists of intangible cultural heritage. In 2010, the UN announced March 21st as "International Day of Novruz". Azerbaijan pastry works in Nowruz Holiday
(20 Mar 2019) Preparations are well underway in Tehran for the celebration of "Nowruz", the Persian New Year. Nowruz, the Farsi-language word for "new year," is an ancient Persian festival celebrated around the world on the first day of spring in 17 countries, including Afghanistan and Iraq. It begins with the beginning of Spring on vernal equinox, on or around 21 March. In the run-up to the holiday, market bazaars are selling delicacies, as well as symbols of the new year, including decorated grass, goldfish and other knick-knacks. Families also buy great amounts of fruits and nuts to offer guests during Nowruz holidays. This year, Nowruz comes at a time of growing economic hardship following US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the Iranian nuclear deal and restore crippling sanctions. Iran's currency has plummeted in recent months, sending prices skyrocketing and wiping out many people's life savings. At Tehran's Tajrish traditional bazaar, both shopkeepers and customers alike complain about the stagnant market and overpriced goods. Neda Derakhshanzadeh, a 31-year-old shoe designer and producer, had to shut down her shop due to the economic difficulties and a drop in sales. In the run-up to Nowruz, she is now selling her stock from a booth provided by the city government. Nowruz has been celebrated in many countries one way or another for more than 3,000 years and has been recognised by the United Nations as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. Its roots are in Zoroastrianism, a religion that pre-dates Christianity and Islam, and its ceremonies centre on community, family and respect for tradition. Various rituals associated with the festival are widely practiced, including the setting of seven symbolic items starting with an 's', called Haft Seen. Seven is considered a lucky number in Persian culture, and each item is thought to signal a prosperous and bountiful year ahead. The Haft Seen items are Seeb (apple), Sekkeh (coin), Sabzeh (grass shoots), Somagh (sumac), Sonbol (hyacinths), Samanoo (wheat pudding) and Serkeh (vinegar). A bowl of goldfish, a mirror, coloured eggs and a holy Quran with money inside for children are other inseparable components of Haft Seen.
