OneRepublic is an American pop rock band from Colorado Springs, Colorado. Formed in 2002 by Ryan Tedder and Zach Filkins, the band achieved commercial success on MySpace as an unsigned act. In late 2003, after playing shows throughout the Los Angeles area, a number of record labels approached the band with interest, but they ultimately signed with Velvet Hammer, an imprint of Columbia Records. They made their first album with producer Greg Wells during the summer and fall of 2005 at his studio, Rocket Carousel, in Culver City, CA. Originally scheduled for release on June 6, 2006, they were dropped by Columbia two months before the album ever came out. In 2007, OneRepublic released their debut album, Dreaming Out Loud. Its lead single, "Apologize" was notably remixed by Timbaland, becoming a huge international success, reaching number one in sixteen countries, subsequently earning them a Grammy Award nomination. The second single, "Stop and Stare" mirrored its predecessor's success. The album was later certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The band's second album, Waking Up (2009), produced the successful singles, "All the Right Moves", "Secrets", "Marchin On", and "Good Life", the latter reaching the top ten of the US Billboard Hot 100. OneRepublic's third album, Native (2013), became the band's first top ten album on the Billboard 200, and highest charting album to date, charting at number four. The lead single, "If I Lose Myself" charted within the top ten in several countries, while the album's third single, "Counting Stars", became the band's most successful single in recent years, obtaining top five placements in Australia, Canada, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, the U.S. and the UK. This marks their highest charting single in the United Kingdom to date. Scott Hansen (born 1976 or 1977), professionally known as Tycho (pronounced like Tie-ko, with emphasis on the first syllable), is an American ambient music artist and producer from San Francisco, California, who is known as ISO50 for his photographic and design works. As of December 2014, Tycho is signed to, and has released under, Ghostly International, but has also released music on Merck Records and Gammaphone Records. His music is a combination of downtempo vintage-style synthesizers and ambient melodies. The style of his music is very organic, typically incorporating clips of the human element into his songs (i.e. weather broadcasts, simple talking, or even breathing). His song, "Dictaphone's Lament", was used as the track on a music video entitled "Live Life to the Fullest", which was made by and featured on the action cartoon block Toonami. His song "Cascade" (originally made for an Adult Swim and Ghostly International compilation called Ghostly Swim) was played during the final moments of the original 11-year run of Toonami in 2008. Postiljonen is a dream pop trio formed in Stockholm in 2011. The band composed of one Norwegian gal (Mia Bøe) and two Swedish dudes (Daniel Sjörs and Joel Nyström Holm). In this short period of time they have managed to create a characteristic sound, where ethereal and alluring vocals are interwoven in a mystical, ambient, dreamy and lovable expression. Difícil falar de Legião Urbana, que para mim sempre será a maior e melhor banda de todos os tempos. Seu som com influências de The Police, U2, Bob Marley, The Smiths, New Order, Ramones, The Cure entre outras grandes bandas dos anos 80 faziam do Legião de Renato Russo, Dado Villa-Lobos, Marcelo Bonfá e Renato Rocha um marco na música Brasileira. Israel Ka‘ano‘i Kamakawiwo'ole, mais conhecido como Israel Kamakawiwo'ole ou Bruddah IZ (pronúncia IPA [kamakaʋiwoˈʔole]; Honolulu, 20 de maio de 1959 - Honolulu, 26 de junho de 1997) foi um cantor e compositor havaiano. Kamakawiwo'ole, que usava também o nome "Braddah IZ", foi muito famoso em sua terra natal e era descendente de uma linhagem pura de nativos havaianos. Nico & Vinz are a Norwegian singing/songwriting duo composed of Nicolas Sereba and Vincent Dery. They formed in 2009 as Envy and are based in Oslo. They changed their name to Nico & Vinz in January 2014 after the international success of "Am I Wrong". In April 2013 they released "Am I Wrong" under the name Envy. In January 2014, the duo changed their name from Envy to Nico & Vinz, in coordination with their signing to Warner Bros. Records in the United States to avoid being confused with other artists with a similar name. With international success of the single, the duo changed the credits of the single to the new adopted name. The song has peaked to number 2 on the Norwegian Singles Chart, the song has also peaked to number 2 on the Danish Singles Chart and number 2 on the Swedish Singles Chart. It was followed up with another release "In Your Arms" which also charted in Norway, Denmark and Sweden. The music video for "Am I Wrong" was directed and edited by Kavar Singh. One Sixth Of Tommy is an indie pop band formed in Stourbridge, UK in 2009. A band comprising of three girls who all write, sing, play guitar and who formed under their own volition is probably rare. Noteworthy even. But what makes One Sixth of Tommy really matter is their music. Their songs are melodic, graceful and uplifting with a nod to acoustic traditions yet not without a healthy dose of experimentation. It is a sound well formed despite the band’s age.
Antônio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim (January 25, 1927 – December 8, 1994) — also known as Tom Jobim was a Brazilian songwriter, composer, arranger, singer, and pianist/guitarist. He was a primary force behind the creation of the bossa nova style, and his songs have been performed by many singers and instrumentalists within Brazil and internationally. Widely known as the composer of "Garota de Ipanema" ("The Girl from Ipanema"), one of the most recorded songs of all time, Jobim has left a large number of songs that are now included in jazz and pop standard repertoires. The song "Garota de Ipanema" has been recorded over 240 times by other artists. Antônio Carlos Jobim was born in the middle-class district of Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro. His father Jorge de Oliveira Jobim (São Gabriel, Rio Grande do Sul, April 23, 1889 – July 19, 1935) was a writer, diplomat, professor and journalist. He came from a prominent family, being the great-grand nephew of José Martins da Cruz Jobim, senator, privy councillor and physician of Emperor Dom Pedro II. Longboard Girls Crew started in Madrid in 2010. At that time, the main idea was to get more girls into the sport. We did it through the tools we had at that time and new stuff that was coming up. We started shooting videos that inspired women to start skating, showing them that we could do it, how accessible it was and how much fun we had and so should they. We promoted all the girls we knew through the Facebook fan page and asked them to send their photos and videos, even though most of them (and us) were beginners or had nothing close to a PRO level. We also did gatherings, Girls Meets and events (contests, freerides) to promote women in the scene. We named the active girls in different countries LGC ambassadors so that they kept spreading the stoke, supporting and inspiring newcomers all around the world. We put female longoarding out there, got some international and media attention and thanks to all this work combined we started not only to gain recognition for women but most importantly, we got thousand of women into the sport around the world. The Director: David Dang: French film director and screenwriter, of Vietnamese descent. Dang taps his multicultural background in his work, using the camera to open up new ways to view the world. He has worked for Nikon, Siemens, Monette Paris, Optic 2000, Rainbow People, Lancôme, Canon, Figaro Madame and Kelly Rowland. After the influx of music posts in the past few days, I think it’s time for a some photography/film-related posts. I randomly stumbled across this short movie while I was browsing on Vimeo. It’s directed by a French director that goes by the name of David Dang and what caught my attention is the fact it was filmed on a Canon Mark II. I really need to get myself one of them but without selling a limb or two I don’t see it happening any time soon. The movie is emotionally gripping, view it after the cut. The actor does an amazing job conveying the emotions without having the need to use any words, his facial expressions of sadness were exceptional to say the least. The filming and musical choice was just as good but what blew me away the most about it was the depth of field on the Mark II. It really worked well with the concept. Julieta Venegas - Nascida em Long Beach, California, Julieta é filha dos fotógrafos Julia Edith Percevault e José Luis Venegas tem quatro irmãos e uma irmã gêmea chamada Ivonne, cresceu e viveu toda sua infância em Tijuana (México), onde começou seus estudos musicais. Rameses B is a British electronic music producer from Yorkshire, United Kingdom. He primarily writes music in the drum and bass, dubstep, chillout, electro, house, and film score genre. Best known for the melodic textures and ambient soundscapes that evoke different emotions within his music, Rameses B has built up the knowledge about sound & music over many years and takes pride in being an independent artist. He does not have an exclusive label contract. He shares much of his music with the world for free. In 2010, his music started getting promoted by popular Youtube channels such as MrSuicideSheep. Brian Hare and Vanessa Woods, Duke University The bonobo (Pan paniscus), formerly called the pygmy chimpanzee and less often, the dwarf or gracile chimpanzee, is an endangered great ape and one of the two species making up the genus Pan; the other is Pan troglodytes, or the common chimpanzee. Although the name "chimpanzee" is sometimes used to refer to both species together, it is usually understood as referring to the common chimpanzee, whereas Pan paniscus is usually referred to as the bonobo. The bonobo is distinguished by relatively long legs, pink lips, dark face and tail-tuft through adulthood, and parted long hair on its head. The bonobo is found in a 500,000 km2 (190,000 sq mi) area of the Congo Basin in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central Africa. The species is omnivorous and inhabits primary and secondary forests, including seasonally inundated swamp forests. Political instability in the region and the timidity of bonobos has meant there has been relatively little field work done observing the species in its natural habitat. Along with the common chimpanzee, the bonobo is the closest extant relative to humans. Because the two species are not proficient swimmers, the formation of the Congo River 1.5–2 million years ago possibly led to the speciation of the bonobo. Bonobos live south of the river, and thereby were separated from the ancestors of the common chimpanzee, which live north of the river. It began when the Ukrainian government decided not to sign the agreement with the European Union back in the fall of 2013. This was not just a trade agreement, but also a political agreement that committed Ukraine to adhere to certain European values and principles. From there the crisis moved very quickly to corruption and regime change. The demonstrations happened in waves, and started primarily in Kiev. Most of the protestors were students and young people, although other regions were represented as well. For these protestors, it was an opportunity to fight corruption. Nascido numa família de nobreza tribal, numa pequena aldeia do interior onde possivelmente viria a ocupar cargo de chefia, recusou esse destino aos 23 anos ao seguir para a capital, Joanesburgo, e iniciar sua atuação política. Passando do interior rural para uma vida rebelde na faculdade, transformou-se em jovem advogado na capital e líder da resistência não-violenta da juventude, acabando como réu em um infame julgamento por traição. Foragido, tornou-se depois o prisioneiro mais famoso do mundo4 e, finalmente, o político mais galardoado em vida, responsável pela refundação do seu país, como uma sociedade multiétnica. Mandela passou 27 anos na prisão - inicialmente em Robben Island e, mais tarde, nas prisões de Pollsmoor e Victor Verster. Depois de uma campanha internacional, ele foi libertado em 1990, quando recrudescia a guerra civil em seu país. Em dezembro de 2013, foi revelado pelo The New York Times que a CIA americana foi a força decisiva para a prisão de Mandela em 1962, quando agentes americanos foram empregados para auxiliar as forças de segurança da África do Sul e para localizá-lo. Até 2009, ele havia dedicado 67 anos de sua vida à causa que defendeu como advogado dos direitos humanos e pela qual se tornou prisioneiro de um regime de segregação racial, até ser eleito o primeiro presidente da África do Sul livre. Em sua homenagem, a Organização das Nações Unidas instituiu o Dia Internacional Nelson Mandela no dia de seu nascimento, 18 de julho, como forma de valorizar em todo o mundo a luta pela liberdade, pela justiça e pela democracia. Mandela foi uma figura controversa durante grande parte da sua vida. Denunciado como sendo um terrorista comunista por seus críticos, ele acabou ser aclamado internacionalmente por seu ativismo e recebeu mais de 250 prêmios e condecorações, incluindo o Nobel da Paz em 1993, Presidential Medal of Freedom dos Estados Unidos e a Ordem de Lenin da União Soviética. Seus críticos apontam seus traços egocêntricos e o fato de seu governo ter sido amigo de ditadores simpáticos ao Congresso Nacional Africano (CNA). Em sua vida privada, enfrentou dramas pessoais mas permaneceu fiel ao dever de conduzir seu país. Songs of Innocence is the thirteenth studio album by Irish rock band U2. Released on 9 September 2014, it was produced by Danger Mouse, with additional production from Paul Epworth, Ryan Tedder, Declan Gaffney and Flood. The album was announced at an Apple Inc. product launch event and released the same day to all iTunes Store customers at no cost. It was exclusive to iTunes, iTunes Radio, and Beats Music until 13 October 2014, when it received a physical release by Island and Interscope Records. The digital release made the record available to over 500 million iTunes customers, for what Apple CEO Tim Cook marketed as "the largest album release of all time". Songs of Innocence was U2's first album since No Line on the Horizon (2009), marking the longest gap between studio albums of their career. After the latter's relatively lukewarm commercial performance, lead singer Bono expressed uncertainty over how the band could remain musically relevant. During the five-and-a-half-year gestation period for Songs of Innocence, they reportedly worked on three separate projects with multiple producers, including an aborted companion to their previous record called Songs of Ascent. However, they struggled to complete an album to their satisfaction and continually delayed a release. After working with Danger Mouse for two years, the group collaborated with Flood, Epworth, and Tedder to complete the record. Thematically, it revisits the group members' youth in Ireland, paying tribute to musical inspirations Ramones and the Clash, while touching on childhood experiences, loves and regrets. Com diversidade cultural nacionalmente conhecida, pela influência de diferentes povos, a capital ganhou expressividade na arquitetura, na música, na literatura, entre outras áreas. Por suas riquezas, desde 1997, o Centro Histórico de São Luís é considerado Patrimônio Mundial da Humanidade, pela Unesco. Em 2012, a cidade completou 400 anos. Foster the People is an American indie pop band formed in Los Angeles, California in 2009. The group is composed of Mark Foster (vocals, keyboards, piano, synthesizers, guitar, programming, percussion), Jacob "Cubbie" Fink (bass and backing vocals), and Mark Pontius (drums, percussion). The group's music, described as melodic dance-infused pop and rock, spans many genres. Foster founded the band in 2009 after spending several years in Los Angeles as a struggling musician and working as a commercial jingle writer. After Foster's song "Pumped Up Kicks" became a viral success in 2010, the group received a record deal from Startime International and gained a fanbase through small club shows and appearances at music festivals. After releasing their debut album Torches in May 2011, "Pumped Up Kicks" became a crossover hit on commercial radio in mid-2011 and eventually reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100. The record also produced the popular singles "Helena Beat" and "Don't Stop (Color on the Walls)". The group received two Grammy Award nominations for Torches and "Pumped Up Kicks". After touring for two years in support of Torches, Foster the People released their second album, Supermodel, in March 2014. It was preceded by the lead single "Coming of Age".
