The country with the most wrong name, or 10 interesting facts about Iceland 1. Paradoxical name The name of the island translates as "ice country". Ironically, the name of neighboring Greenland means "green land". These names would change, and there would be a complete correspondence to the climate of each island. And so it turns out that a country where glaciers occupy only 11% of the territory is called icy, and Greenland, in which greenery grows on barely 15% of the entire territory, is called green. 2. Even climate The climate of Iceland is what is called "winter and summer in the same color". Icelanders can wear the same clothes all year round. And all because winter is warm here (the temperature rarely drops below -5 ° C), and summer, on the contrary, is cold (the maximum you can count on is +22 ° C). But you won't feel the heat in any case – the wind on the island is incredibly strong and blows all year round. Therefore, a hat on the head is an indispensable part of every Icelander's clothing. 3. Only a quarter of the territory is habitable Iceland is the largest volcanic island in the world. Active, dormant and extinct volcanoes occupy more than half of the territory. The entire middle of the island is a deserted and uninhabitable area. People are settled only along the coast and the valleys of the mountains adjacent to the coastline. 4. There are no mosquitoes and trees in Iceland The reason for the absence of mosquitoes on the island is extremely simple – mosquitoes simply do not have time to complete their life cycle in conditions of sharp and frequent weather changes. Well, what is not a paradise for a typical middle-class Russian. And as for the trees, there are very, very few of them. In the middle of the island, they do not grow due to volcanic activity and the specific composition of the soil. And there are no trees in the relatively rich and fertile coastal part because they were cut down by the Vikings in the Middle Ages, so they still cannot grow. The Government of the country is, of course, making every effort to restore the forest cover, but so far without success. 5. Unique nature Nature is the main treasure of Iceland. Everyone has heard about geysers. The most famous of them, the Great Geysir, just gave the name to all the hot springs of the planet. The concentration of volcanoes per unit of the island's territory is impressive. And what names do these volcanoes have! Eyjafjallajekull alone, who caused a stir throughout Europe in 2010, is worth it. The pride of the country and the dream of any tourist is also a unique geothermal lake "Blue Lagoon", a huge pool of hot water in the middle of a lava field, the temperature in which is +37 ° C all year round. 6. High life rate Icelanders, along with the Japanese, are the main centenarians of the planet. 83.2 years is the average life expectancy in Iceland, and this is a very decent result. Only the Japanese live longer – 84.4 years. Interestingly, the Icelanders themselves cannot explain the reason for their longevity. But scientists are inclined to two factors that are the same in Japan as in Iceland. The first is the climate due to the fact that it is an island. The second is a fish–rich diet.

Breathtaking Iceland - The Stunning Beauty of Vatnajökull National Park | Nature Documentary Watch 'Grand Canyon - The Jaw-Dropping Beauty of America's National Park' here: 🤍 In southeastern Iceland, Europe's largest glacier, the gigantic Vatnajökull, covers an area of around 9,000 square kilometers. Beneath it lie the world's most active and dangerous volcanoes. This extreme landscape is as dangerous as it is fascinating: glistening white glacier tongues, lagoons covered with icebergs, bizarre green lava mountains, snow-covered volcanic cones, solidified lava flows and imposing waterfalls overwhelm everyone who gets to see them. In 2008, Icelanders declared the glacier and adjacent areas a national park, the largest in Europe. In this documentary, the team meets people who live, work or do research here: a life with the dangers of fire and ice in the overwhelming landscape of Vatnajökull National Park. On average, Iceland is hit by a volcanic eruption every five years. In the summer of 2014, the largest lava outpouring in Iceland since 1784 began in Vatnajökull National Park, a historic event. 1,400 billion liters of lava spilled out in six months. The volcano initially came to rest, but now it is rumbling again! At any time, in any place, a new eruption could occur. The island population relies on people who try to predict these natural disasters. One of them is geologist Freysteinn Sigmundsson from the University of Reykjavik. While he and his team are taking measurements in the middle of the crater of the gigantic Askja volcano to find out whether the glowing magma below will rise again, pilot Magnus Thormar is observing the volcanoes from above. A dangerous job in and above one of the most impressive, but also most unstable landscapes in the world. But Iceland and Vatnajökull are not only a study ground for science, but also a place of deep-rooted mysticism. Bryndís Pétursdóttir is a seer. She has a mysterious connection with the Huldufólk, the hidden people, and the elves. The majority of the Icelandic population is convinced that these legendary creatures live among the people. But they only show themselves to a select few. Bryndís leads the television crew to places of special power where the mysterious creatures live. When a volcanic eruption is imminent, she feels no fear. Bryndís is convinced that the elves will appear in her dreams to warn her. One thing unites all the people who live in this extreme part of the world: a deep connection with one of the most magical places in the world, Vatnajökull National Park. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Subscribe Free Documentary - Nature Channel for free: 🤍 Facebook: 🤍 Twitter: 🤍 ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ #FreeDocumentaryNature #Documentary #Iceland ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Free Documentary is dedicated to bring high-class documentaries to you on youtube for free. 10 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO TO ICELAND

Today we share 10 things to know before you go to Iceland including when to visit Iceland, things to know before you visit Iceland and where to go in Iceland. We also share both what to pack for Iceland Summer and what to pack for Iceland Winter. We give some Iceland budget travel tips, things to do in Iceland and general Iceland travel tips to help those planning a trip to Iceland. Iceland has so much to offer visitors who love gorgeous landscapes and unique travel experiences. However, there are a few things you need to know before you go. 1. When to visit - When to visit Iceland is always the big question. Summer brings somewhat slightly warmer weather and longer days whilst Winter is perfect for the Northern Lights. Ideally, we recommend you visit from June to August to make the most out of the Midnight Sun and longer days. However, if you are set on seeing the Northern lights, make sure you visit in February, March, September and October. It is worth noting that the northern lights are not visible in the Summer months. 2. Always pack thermals or wool - No matter when you visit, you will need layers, thermals and/or wool. Iceland is cold, especially if you are visiting the Highlands or South Coast. 3. Limited daylight - Visiting in Winter brings its own type of magic but you need to plan your trip carefully. Daylight is very limited in the winter months - with darkness for almost 20 hours a day on the shortest days of the year. You are much more likely to see the Northern Lights during this time but just plan your days carefully 4. Bring a sleep mask - So Winter is dark but the summer is bright! The midnight sun should not be taken lightly; it shines almost all night so pack a sleep mask to be able to sleep. Most hotels have black-out drapes but it is worth bring those eye masks just incase! 5. Book everything in advance - Iceland is incredibly popular but also very limited in the way of restaurants, tours and hotels. Book everything in advance, even restaurant reservations. 6. Make sure you visit Reykjavik - The capital is charismatic and quirky, definitely a place you should visit during your trip. It is a great idea to use the city as a base then travel out to the sights each day. 00:00 INTRO 00:33 WHEN TO VISIT 01:08 ALWAYS PACK THERMALS 01:38 LIMITED DAYLIGHT 02:06 BRING A SLEEP MASK 02:31 BOOK EVERYTHING IN ADVANCE 03:01 VISIT REYKJAVIK 03:20 VISIT THE SIGHTS 03:39 RENT A CAR 04:17 USE CREDIT CARDS 04:30 AVOID ALCOHOL 04:54 OUTRO Watch the video for more... 10 Reasons to Move to Iceland

What are the reasons to move to Iceland? To many people, Iceland is just a small country in Europe. However, this island country in the North Atlantic Ocean has a lot of good things to offer for those who desire to have a taste of life in Iceland. In this video, you’re going to see 10 reasons to move to Iceland. You’ll then discover certain things that are magnetically cool about Iceland. This is a country that’s sprawling with wonders of nature including stunning glaciers, astonishing lava formations, amazing geysers, and dazzling fjords. No wonder, it's always found in several lists of the best places to visit in Europe. I dare add Iceland to the list of best places to live even in the whole world. As you go through these reasons to move to Iceland as presented in this video, you’ll see the best things about living in Iceland. 1. It’s very safe In my own opinion, the foremost reason to move to Iceland is safety considerations. I have earlier sided with those who voted Iceland as the safest country in the world. This is largely due to the fact that the country is very tiny, and criminals have no hiding place. Save for the few mountains, there’s literally nowhere to run on the island. Criminals will find it hard to escape as everyone knows each other. About every Icelander is somewhat related to another when family trees are extended to the sixth generation. Iceland's crime rate is among the lowest. Children play outside unsupervised only to return home just before dinner or curfew. Did you know that Icelandic police don’t carry guns? Now, you see why the country keeps topping several rankings of safest countries, including the IEP's Global Peace Index. 2. Nature Tranquility is associated with getting close to nature and this can go a long way in improving our health. You can enjoy this in your country without a long journey if you move to Iceland. One of the best things about living in Iceland is that you get the chance to experience nature uninhibited. There are many wonders of nature in this country. That’s one of the reasons Iceland is among the small most-visited countries by tourists. Among the tourist attractions you can see more frequently while living in Iceland are exotic waterfalls. There is also a blue lagoon where tourists always bathe in. Another wonder of nature is the hot pools with waters of varying temperatures. Imagine seeing the sun at the midnight. It happens here in Iceland from May to July. Do we need to mention glaciers and ice caves? These provide you with reasons to move to Iceland. 3. Equality Another reason to move to Iceland is equality. Let's narrow this down to gender equality which Iceland ranks first for. Iceland has commendably made remarkable progress toward equal opportunities for both genders both in private lives and in the society at large. This is a source of pride for the Icelanders as the country is the frontrunner in the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Index for many several years. Women rights defenders are doing a lot to challenge the men’s monopoly of power. This is not in isolation. They’re a direct result of academic, cultural, political, religious, social, awakening that’s loud in Iceland. For example, Iceland is one of the Nordic countries where the welfare state is supportive of granting parental leave also to fathers. Subsequently, both mates have equal power and responsibility to run the home and share in the family responsibility. 4. Very quiet and peaceful A country ranked one of the safest is automatically peaceful. And a country that still preserves its open landscape, leaving the awe-inspiring and superabundant of fresh nature untouched is likely to be quiet. Welcome to Earth Relaxation ! Iceland, a Nordic island country located in the North Atlantic Ocean. Lying on the constantly active geologic border between North America and Europe, Iceland is a land of vivid contrasts of climate, geography, and culture. Iceland's capital and largest city is Reykjavík, which is home to over 65% of the population. Iceland is the only part of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge that rises above sea level, and its central volcanic plateau is erupting almost constantly. Eleven percent of the country is covered in glacial ice and is surrounded by water. The land is plateau with mountain peaks, and ice fields, with a coastline marked by fjords, which are deep inlets carved by glaciers. The climate of Iceland's coast is subarctic. The warm North Atlantic Current ensures generally higher annual temperatures than in most places of similar latitude in the world. The climate of Iceland is maritime subarctic. It is influenced by the location of the country on the broad boundary between two contrasting air currents, one of polar and the other of tropical origin. Welcome to Earth Relaxation ! Iceland, island country located in the North Atlantic Ocean. Lying on the constantly active geologic border between North America and Europe, Iceland is a land of vivid contrasts of climate, geography, and culture. Iceland is the only part of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge that rises above sea-level, and its central volcanic plateau is erupting almost constantly. Iceland contains about 200 volcanoes and has one-third of Earth’s total lava flow. One-tenth of the total land area is covered by cooled lava beds and glaciers. Because Iceland is volcanic, almost all of their electricity and heating comes from hydroelectric power and geothermal water reserves. The climate of Iceland is maritime subarctic. It is influenced by the location of the country on the broad boundary between two contrasting air currents, one of polar and the other of tropical origin. The climate is affected also by the confluence of two ocean currents: the Gulf Stream, from near the Equator, and the East Greenland Current. Music has so many benefits, and one of them is that it calms your nerves down. It's always a good idea to listen to some background music while you're doing something. We are on the hunt to find delicious and traditional Icelandic foods right here in Reykjavik, whilst also giving you an idea on the costs of food and groceries here in Iceland. First stop we headed to Kaffibrennslan to try or favourite thing ever...coffee of course before heading out to Vagninn on the water to try some street food fish and chips with remoulade pickled mayonnaise sauce. Next up and the dish we were most excited to try was Lobstersoup from Seabaron as well as their Haddock fish kebab before heading off to the 10-11 grocery store to show you the cost of eggs, milk and bread and whilst we were there we had to try Skyr yoghurt and appelsin soda. To end our food tour in Reykjavik we made our way to Cafe Loki to try Rye bread icecream and mashed fish on rye bread as well as herron with eggs. Yes we realise there are a lot of strange Iceland food out there like fermented shark and horse head, in this video we just wanted to show you some delicious foods rather than the weird ones :) Where we ate: Coffee Spot: Kaffibrennslan Fish & Chips: Vagninn Lobstersoup & Haddock Fish Kebab: Seabaron Grocery Store: 10-11 Grocery Rye Bread Icecream: Cafe Loki Iceland Trip with Intrepid Travel (One Week Camping in Iceland): 🤍 Where we get our incredible music from: 🤍 (- you can also sign up and get a month free of royalty free Travel Vlog & YouTube music Gear we shot this video with - 🤍 SUBSCRIBE TO NEVER MISS AN EPISODE: 🤍 FLYING THE NEST: Website • 🤍 Facebook • 🤍 Twitter • 🤍 Snapchat • 🤍 STEPHEN: Instagram • 🤍 Twitter • 🤍 JESS: Instagram • 🤍 Twitter • 🤍 - Hi, we are Stephen & Jess, Australian vloggers documenting our first year of leaving home and travelling around the globe. Welcome to Earth Relaxation ! Iceland is a small island nation that is Europe's westernmost country and home to the world’s northernmost capital, Reykjavik. It is a volcanic island in the north Atlantic is famous for its hot springs and dramatic scenery. Iceland is typically divided into seven different geographical regions, including the Reykjavík capital area. Each region differs slightly with respect to both culture and landscape, but all are uniquely Icelandic. The climate of Iceland is subpolar oceanic near the southern coastal area and tundra inland in the highlands. The island lies in the path of the North Atlantic Current, which makes its climate more temperate than would be expected for its latitude just south of the Arctic Circle. Music has so many benefits, and one of them is that it calms your nerves down. It's always a good idea to listen to some background music while you're doing something. So here are some relaxing piano pieces with 4k nature videos that will help you relax, feel relaxed, and get ready for bed.
